On Repeat

“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:27‬ ‭

“If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times – “

Do you ever repeat yourself?

I do.

But that may be more a symptom of forgetfulness than anything else. The gears slip and I launch into that great story – for the third time.

Sigh.

But we have to repeat ourselves, to get our message across.

That’s why I find this verse so interesting.

See the word ‘created’?

Why is it there not once, not twice, but three times??

Hmmmm.

See the phrase ‘in the image of God’?

Mmm-hmmmm.

It’s there twice. But in the verse above, it pops up again.

Is God forgetful?

Or is He trying to underline the intended message to forgetful folks?

Just let those two delectable truths sink into your soul today.

You are NOT an accident. You were designed. Created. As in, hand-crafted by a Master Sculptor. His signature is what gives you intense value.

Leonardo da Vinci’s signature can fetch hundreds of millions at auction. But God’s? On a living piece of art like yourself?

Priceless. Beyond price. No amount of money or real estate or stocks can replace you.

You were handcrafted by a God who breathed life into your cells, and then commits to watching over you, guiding you, loving you.

Oh.

My.

The second lovely thing I want you to think over today is the part about being created in the image of God.

The sunflower seeds that drop from the flowers are imprinted with the DNA of the parent plant. When they grow, they will grow in the image of the parent – same species, but with genetic variations built in. They may be taller or shorter, they may have more or less or different sized blooms – but they will be obvious relatives.

Oh, friend.

Your best characteristics, your genetic variations, can’t hide the fact that you are created to reflect God’s beauty and purity and compassion.

What lies are you repeating to yourself about who you are, and where you fit in to the global picture?

He said it THREE TIMES.

I’m thinking that means “Sit up! Take note! Don’t forget! This is especially true!”

Let these truths sink deeper with me today?

Father, You handcrafted each person on earth. Help us to treat ourselves and others with the dignity You blessed us all with! You created us in Your image – remind us to bless and not curse the image You gave us today! Amen.
