We Must Be Rich!

“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭

Diamonds!

They were everywhere.

They were in the tree branches. They were in the bushes and grasses. They glistened from pathways and fields and creek beds.

Even the weeds were decked out in gems. It was like they were mini Cinderellas, dressed for the royal ball in the finery of a Fairy Tale.

Every once in a while, conditions are just right for the frost and snow to glitter. There’s a shimmer, a halo of sparkle as you walk or drive that makes being out in the world magical! This photo really doesn’t do it justice – no photo can ever seem to capture that glam. You will have to use your imagination and take my word for it.

Diamonds galore!

Every time I see them, I remember one of my littles at recess.

We got out into the glorious sunshine that morning, and the glitter and sparkle were enough to make me squint my eyes. I said to the little nearest me, “Isn’t that amazing?? It’s like there are diamonds covering the earth!”

He was standing slack-jawed, very like a first time tourist to Venice. He slowly looked up at me and remarked, “We must be rich!”

How wise, these words from a six year old.

I have never looked at glittery snow the same since…

How rich we are, to have the gift of gemstones tucked into snowbanks. How rich we are, to breathe free oxygen and have a liver that functions without being told and have an evening meal to look forward to.

How rich we are that God is rich in kindness and grace – and saw fit to send His Son to us, to purchase our pardon and set us free from the burden of sin and decay that this earth is shackled to. Imagine – having the rights of Royalty bestowed upon beggars. No Fairy Take can compare with this rags to riches promise!

Diamonds, all – gleaming like the stars, these gifts from the hand of a loving and good God.

We must be very, very rich indeed…

Count yourself rich with me today?

Father, thank You for the reminder that all that glitters is not gold – gifts need have no monetary value to be a lavish and valuable offering! We are rich in ways we can’t even comprehend. Open our eyes to the beauty and dazzle of the many gifts You give that we don’t even pay attention to. Amen.

I am actually a bit of a mess. But in the mess, I’m finding security in knowing I am chosen, I am forgiven, and I matter. After uncovering a history of abuse in my past, I have done a lot of healing - and writing is one way I can invite you deeper into your own healing journey! I write devotionals about the complicated thing called life at growing-in-grace.ca, and my poetry is stashed at melodylowes.com. Pull up a chair and a coffee or tea and let's grow together!
