V.I.P. Access

“He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭

We were approaching the door, and were already reaching for them.

The maître d’ would surely be asking, and since we were hungry, we were willing to oblige.

Our Identification and vaccine passports at the ready, our reservation made, we were ushered to our table.

Mmm, delicious.

That little QR code got us why we wanted – access to food.

Now let’s take this idea to another level.

Imagine that I had in my possession a pair of backstage passes to an Adele concert, that allowed two of us into the areas that only those authorized can enter. Cool, right? Flashing a ticket with that kind of clout would make a gal feel mighty special, indeed.

Ok, so the analogy is limited. But still. It reminds me of the I.D. card I carry that would make a backstage pass to a world class performer’s personal space look like sawdust.

See, the King of the Universe has given me a ‘card’, as it were, to get right into the throne room of God. Because I belong to Jesus by faith and have accepted His sacrifice on my behalf, I have V.I.P. access to God Himself at any time, day or night.

Imagine.

Like, actually let that delectable idea settle into your bones for a bit.

Known by name, called to a purpose, given access at any time through prayer to the Supreme Ruler of the Universe – I mean, it doesn’t get any better than that.

It would be pretty foolish to not avail myself of the opportunity to enter God’s personal space when I needed it, wouldn’t it? In the same way, it would be presumptuous to just barge in Willy-nilly, making a nuisance of myself by breaking the protocols and trashing all the guidelines for properly entering the space.

So – because I have been given access, I ought to use it wisely and respectfully.

And – I need to remember that this ‘backstage pass’ was given with a purpose in mind – I am to become a part of a kingdom of priests.

Which means, I am supposed to communicate God’s ways and love to those around me. And at the same time, I have the privilege and responsibility of bringing the needs of others to God, to show them the way to acquire their own V.I.P. Access.

The very fact that God invites me into His kingdom goals by trusting me with so important a job is astonishing. I mess up. I fail. I forget that I even have access to God and panic when I should be stepping out in shoes of faith. Yet He gently restores me when I mess up so that I can relate to others who also mess up – and together, we can learn what it really means to access the Living God to live well in the middle of our mess.

Wow.

Put your V.I.P. Access to good use with me?

Father, how astonishing it is that You call us to be a kingdom of priests to bring others into relationship with You – and represent You to those around us. Give us strength and joy as we learn how to properly access Your resources. Amen.

I am actually a bit of a mess. But in the mess, I’m finding security in knowing I am chosen, I am forgiven, and I matter. After uncovering a history of abuse in my past, I have done a lot of healing - and writing is one way I can invite you deeper into your own healing journey! I write devotionals about the complicated thing called life at growing-in-grace.ca, and my poetry is stashed at melodylowes.com. Pull up a chair and a coffee or tea and let's grow together!
