A Brilliant Smile

“‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6:24-26‬ ‭

Our eyes met and her very first response, the automatic one, was to smile.

And oh, how that smile was appreciated.

It had been a day. (We’ve all had those.) All of my interactions had felt – negative. (Grouchy people shipping. Go figure.)

And here was a woman who didn’t know me, had no obvious connection to me, and no reason to shoot me that ray of sunshine where I was standing under my little Eeyore cloud of doom.

What a difference the 3 second simple act of a total stranger can make.

So I want to to imagine God across the room turning. Seeing you. And smiling.

Smiling.

Genuinely happy to see you. Delighted at the prospect of spending time with you. Tickled at the idea that you have arrived.

Seriously.

Let. That. Sink. In.

Whatever darkness faces you today, hang on to this – there is light. And this light can make itself felt today in the form of a God-smile.

My prayer for all of you reading this today is that God’s smile would light your way. Because a God who blesses, protects, and grants peace also smiles when He thinks of you.

Seek God’s blessing and favour with me today?

Father, how we crave Your smile of blessing. Anoint all who read these words today with Your favour, Your love, and Your smile. Amen.

I am actually a bit of a mess. But in the mess, I’m finding security in knowing I am chosen, I am forgiven, and I matter. After uncovering a history of abuse in my past, I have done a lot of healing - and writing is one way I can invite you deeper into your own healing journey! I write devotionals about the complicated thing called life at growing-in-grace.ca, and my poetry is stashed at melodylowes.com. Pull up a chair and a coffee or tea and let's grow together!
