“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
I spotted them right away.
A wee trio of ‘Sweethearts’ candy, their messages displayed prominently on their cheerful faces.
Hubby had placed them there for me to find at breakfast time – he leaves for work before I’m up – and while not expensive, or elaborate, or fancy, I took them for what they were.
A love offering.
Truly, it’s the thought that counts.
It counts that he chose to buy the roll of cute candies. It counts that he went through the messages and made his selections. It counts that he left them sitting where I’d see them. It counts that he knew that I’d enjoy them.
The thought of him thinking about me is enough to make me smile.
I was grinning wide, reading the ‘love notes’, when I spotted it.
A dramatic, vibrant sunrise.
It was unusually brilliant, and unusually stylized. There was a stripe of carmine on top, with a band of pink in the middle, and a darker, gorgeous coral sweeping across the bottom, haze from frost hanging in the air.
And it hit me.
This, too, was a love note – from God Himself. A token of beauty placed right where I’d see it when I got up for breakfast, saying ‘I love you’ with just as much fervour as the candied concoctions.
And it is the thought that counts! The thought of a Supreme Being with a rather busy schedule for the day organizing a sunrise for His daughter’s pleasure – well, that is a rather delectable thought.
It makes a gal feel quite loved.
Honoured, in fact. It’s plain astonishing that my pleasure would have been on God’s mind. But I know it was!
It made the whole experience a deep delight.
It’s enough to bring me to my knees in absolute worship, to think that God would think of me – let alone have so many, they couldn’t be numbered!
I’m tearing up, I tell you. I can’t even fathom it.
But oh, friend, because it is written in God’s love letter, I know it is true!
God thinks about us.
Like, a lot.
He plans for us. He pulls strings for us. He loves to do tender little things that are just for us to notice and enjoy.
It so totally true.
It’s the thought that counts…
Be amazed by a God who thinks about us with me?
Father, what a joy it is to be thought of! And these words from the Psalms which reveal Your heart for Your children, declaring how often we are in Your thoughts, open our eyes to Your tender and delightful personality. Thank You for who You are! Amen.
