“Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.”
He doesn’t say it as much as he lives it.
It’s in the way he greets me in the morning. It’s in those wonderful Sunday breakfasts. It’s in the oil changes and car washes, the scraper placed in my backseat when the snow flies.
It’s in the willingness to take an early spring drive down south to look for crocuses, because he knows how important these signs of spring are to me. It’s in the patient way he stood along the hiking trail to let me take yet another picture of an interesting plant.
It doesn’t look like the novels or the movies. It isn’t lines of poetry or eloquent speeches under the moon.
But it’s real.
And over time I’ve developed the eyes to see it – everlasting love.
Do you see the signs?
He said the words in His love letter to us long ago. But He proves His love in what He does.
It’s in the sunrise each morning. It’s in the way the earth was placed, at precisely the right spot for gravity to exist in its optimal level. It’s in the birdsong that greets the day, the smell of the earth, the joy of a child.
It’s in the delicate fuzz of a peachy skin. It’s in the oxygen we breathe, the warmth of the sun, the delight of a newborn fawn.
It’s in the form of Jesus, walking so deliberately to Jerusalem so long ago, knowing what was waiting for Him. It’s in the way He said nothing to defend Himself at that mock trial.
It’s in the remarkable way He refused to use His power to save Himself pain.
It’s in the way He chose to bear the sins of the entire world, from time immemorial to the final act, to ensure our salvation.
If ever you wanted to see everlasting love, it is in those final words, “It is finished.”
Do you have eyes to see it?
I so appreciate, cherish, and value Hubby’s love.
I am working on appreciating, cherishing, and valuing God’s extravagant love more and more as I open my eyes to see it in new ways as I learn more about it.
It draws us to the very heart of God.
Learn to see signs of God’s love around you with me?
Father, Your love is higher and deeper and wider than we can ever imagine. Help us to have eyes that will help us to see and appreciate and cherish the love You lavish on is. Amen.
