Experience Wanted

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:19‬ ‭

You’re ready. Almost.

Your name is called.

Nerves are a factor, but you’ve been preparing for this. Your speech is prepared. The roar of the crowd lifts you like a wave, and almost physically carries you to the stage. You walk with what you hope looks like a confident swagger to the podium.

Your first glance at that glittery crowd makes your heart race. Palms slick with sweat struggle to hold cue cards, upon which your acceptance speech is inscribed.

You humbly accept your Grammy…

What’s that?

Oh. You’ve never been nominated for a Grammy?

(Not even once?)

Fine.

I haven’t either.

I mean, let’s be honest. I’m not in the ball park.

Maybe not even the parking lot.

I just don’t have any experience of accepting prestigious awards. No acceptance speeches, roaring crowds, finery and public glory. I have a great imagination – but there it ends.

Now. Let’s talk a different kind of experience.

Being loved.

Being loved purely for who you are. Loved with a purity beyond the skies, loved with a depth that can’t be reached by submarine. Loved with a passion unmatched. An energy and honesty and holiness and intensity and gentleness that you’ve never met.

Have you been loved like that?

Maybe you would say you haven’t.

But – it wouldn’t be true!

You are immensely, deeply, deliciously loved already.

It’s true!

You are loved by a Being who needs nothing, for no other reason than He chooses to love because He is love.

Love just pours out of His pores (if He has theirs!) because His very substance is love.

If you haven’t experienced it yet, you can learn how.

Really.

Ah, friend.

This Easter, may you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. May your heart expand so you can hold more and more of this tantalizing and powerful love. May your soul be healed enough to believe the truth – the mind-boggling, stunning, remarkable truth.

You are loved.

Experience wanted.

Learn how deeply you’re loved with me?

Father, thank You. You lavish this love on us, and we don’t deserve it! But we are grateful – and humbled by it. Help us to reach out for more. Teach us how to experience this love in our daily lives. Amen.

I am actually a bit of a mess. But in the mess, I’m finding security in knowing I am chosen, I am forgiven, and I matter. After uncovering a history of abuse in my past, I have done a lot of healing - and writing is one way I can invite you deeper into your own healing journey! I write devotionals about the complicated thing called life at growing-in-grace.ca, and my poetry is stashed at melodylowes.com. Pull up a chair and a coffee or tea and let's grow together!
