“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
Colossians 3:12

What are you wearing to work?
Those of you who need to be outside in the elements will dress differently than those who will stay indoors all day. The ones who need tools will strap them on. You may require specialized PPE. Some will be casual, others more dressy.
What you wear matters, not so much in colour or style or the money spent as much as the function it brings to your job.
How many of you remembered to dress your spirit? Your inner self?
The real you?
Hmmmm.
I am well aware of how important it is to dress my inner being with patience. Every day I work with littles – lovely, imaginative, energetic littles – who spill, and forget their manners, and get whiny, and are oh, so needy.
They are children.
I expect them to behave as such.
So I need my fresh supply of kindness, and gentleness, and patience every day, so that I remember that they need my guidance and support as they learn to navigate their world, and don’t expect them to be little adults.
When I remember to ask in the morning for an extra gentleness sweater, a tender mercy scarf, or a pair of humble shoes, things tend to go better. I’m covered in that extra layer of loveliness that has very little to do with my physical wardrobe or outward appearance.
These are my God clothes.
I’ve had people tell me that I’m a very patient person.
They don’t know that this suit of patience has come with years of deliberate practice – and lots of asking for help from the Source of all that is good and right.
So – what are you wearing to work?
Are you anticipating a demand for gentleness that you don’t own? A garment of grace? Maybe something supportive like humility for the moments that catch you off guard?
Build these ‘clothes’ into your wardrobe with proactive decisions to rely on God’s strength to cover your weakness. Bank prayers for patience against a season of added stress on the horizon. Guard your thinking against negative patterns and inject some grace – both for yourself, and the failings of others.
And then, whatever your day brings, whatever mistakes are in it or challenges will be tossed in your lap, you’ll be ready. With God’s help, you can learn and put into practice what you know is right and good.
What a beautiful work wardrobe that would be!
*whistle*
Y’all are looking amazing!
Make the choice to add some pizazz to your work wardrobe with me?
Father, we really do need Your help at work. There are pressures and deadlines and stresses and we forget that those we work with and for deserve our best efforts to remain professional and considerate. Guard our hearts and teach us how to add those elements of kindness and patience that will beautify our roles wherever we work. Amen.
Thanks Melody! Timely words:)
