“Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened.”
Now THAT is a green thumb…
“Let there be petunias!” Bamboo. Oaks and maples, carrots and cauliflower, every kind of plant material known to us on every continent, spoken into being.
From the creation of the principles of energy, to the setting up of boundaries, God turns to His creative side.
Medicinal plants. Plants with fibres to create parchment and paper and fabric. Food – so many delicious varieties of colour, flavour, texture! And plants that are just beautiful, that delight the senses with intoxicating fragrances and sensuous blooms.
Look at the diversity honoured here. Look at the productivity – each providing something of immense value. Look at the interdependence – the species attracting pollinators. The epiphytes, those like orchids who piggyback off another plant’s energy source. The legumes, nitrogen-fixers whose roots enrich the surrounding soil.
Plants were created for community. For satisfying bellies. For pure pleasure.
Such a good gift…
We could learn a lot from observing the rhythms and seasons of plant life.
All have value. All have their place. All are designed to be enjoyed, for different reasons. All contribute to the global health of the planet.
Are you seeing the parallels?
God VALUES diversity.
God HONOURS uniqueness.
God delights in surprises, takes pleasure in flavours, loves colour and texture and peculiar habits and interesting traits.
Do you see how you fit into the global community?
Are you learning to take pride in what you bring to the table – your unique flavour, texture, and fragrance?
Are you able to see the value in others who have different talents and gifts?
Does your heart honour the diversity around you, or demand conformity?
Let’s move further into ‘plant appreciation’ today.
Learn to value what God values with me??
Father, Your astounding plant inventions show us so much of Your heart – they demonstrate Your love for the unique, for the interesting, for working together in community. Teach us to see others through Your eyes of acceptance today. Amen.
